I think the circuit diagram is wrong - the 200 & 500 ohm resistors are the wrong way round.
Both the solution in the book, and the on-line solution, show the 200 ohm resistor on the gate, and the 500 ohm on the path.

I came here to say this as well. Glad it isn’t just me.
Errata: Either the solution or the circuit diagram is wrong for Challenge 84. Pick either one, swap 500 and 200 Ohms and they will now match.
My suggestion: swap the diagram resistances so the mechanical dynamics works better.
Ps: no need to use the switch if relative spin direction isn’t relevant to you.
